Siroua wool and natural dyes sourced in the region of Taznakht, Morocco
Sofia Badaoui grew up with one foot in France and the other in Morocco. As an artist, she has created CALIKESH, a project that draws from thousands of years of tradition, while envisioned for contemporary spaces. Each rug is designed in Badaoui's studio in Yucca Valley California. The colors are made using painstakingly harvested local Moroccan dyes such as saffron, as well as colors derived from various roots, flowers and plants. By partnering with artisans in Morocco, many of whom are relatives, Sofia bridges the two cultures, while also celebrating the similar landscapes of California's Mojave Desert and her beloved Morocco.
