ARTISTS BIO:
Ariane Vielmetter (b. 1987, Tübingen; lives and works in Altadena) received an MFA from California Institute of the Arts (2012) and BA from University of California, Los Angeles (2008). Her work has been included in exhibitions at Commonwealth and Council, Los Angeles, Ever Gold [Projects], San Francisco, HeyThere Projects, Joshua Tree, and the Chan gallery at Pomona College, Claremont. Recent works have focused on the impact of the Eaton fire on the ecology of her garden, and on the surprising resilience of certain objects, materials, and species that have persevered and transformed in the aftermath of catastrophe. Her practice relies on the devotional attention and prolonged process of looking inherent to observational drawing to reconsider subjects that might otherwise go unnoticed in a world that prioritizes speed and spectacle.
